Opening hours:
Cancon is open to the public from 7am to midnight days 1 & 2; 7am to 6pm day 3.
Entry fees:
- Entry to the tournaments is ticketed and charged a fee, enter via the Canberra Games Society webpage www.cgs.asn.au.
- Entry to the public to walk round, visit the traders, watch a game or relax in the Comfy Chair Zone, is FREE.
Food:
Canteens are located in the main hall, with our Food Van Court located out the front of the Fitzroy pavilion.
Getting to EPIC:
Parking is FREE and available at EPIC.
EPIC is right beside the tram on Flemington Road and has a bus stop just outside.
Event details:
The 46th Annual Canberra Games Society CANCON Gaming Convention hosts gaming enthusiasts from Australia and Overseas and is the single largest gaming convention in the Southern Hemisphere. It is being held at Exhibition Park In Canberra (EPIC) on 24-26 January 2026.
Over 80 Trade Stalls located in Budawang and Quokka Pavilions will be selling their wares. Traders include Good Games, Eureka Miniatures, Aetherworks and Olympian Games. Products sold cater for all tastes and hobbies, from the games related miniatures and paints, to Pet Dragon plushies and lego.
Roleplaying is always a feature of CANCON and has a dedicated area in the Snowy River pavilion hosted by Chaos Conventions. This year they will be featuring tabletop Roleplaying, including Call of Cthulhu, Rune Quest, Pathfinder, Starfinder and of course Dungeons and Dragons.
Wargaming Tournaments are located in Coorong and Fitzroy Pavilions have almost 40 systems are being run as tournaments, with events and covering historical, fantasy and science fiction themes. Games featured include Bolt Action, De Bellis Antiquitatis (DBA), Flames of War, Warhammer 40,000 and another world record setting Age of Sigmar event.
Want to know how to paint miniatures? The Crimson Brush here are here to help! The painter’s lounge is there to get guidance and you paint your day away at CANCON with those who have like-minded interests. There is also the Crimson Brush Painting Competition for those with the right stuff.
One of the main attractions is the CANCON Games Library located in the Budawang Pavilion, which has been immensely popular in the last few years.
- The library is focused on casual games, which has proven to be popular with families and children;
- One of its goals is helping people discover what modern board games offer beyond mainstream offerings such as Risk and Monopoly;
- For a set fee for a day there is a library of over 300 board games to choose from with 100 tables available, in a friendly non-competitive environment;
- The library is constantly refreshed with the latest games released from the EU and US; and
- Volunteers are on hand to help teach people how to play the range of games available.
Card Games by GoodGames remains a big event at CANCON with a dedicated rooms hosting a range of competitions such as Magic The Gathering, Pokemon TCG, Flesh and Blood and Yu-Gi-Oh! to name a few.
About Canberra Games Society: we are devoted to the furthering of gaming in the Australian Capital Territory and beyond. This includes not only includes wargaming but a large range of other board, card and tabletop games. Meetings are held on Thursdays at 7PM at the Canberra Bridge Club, 6 Duff Place Deakin.
